Introducing GhostyakBoxes

by ghostyak 2026. 8. 23.

1. Hello

Hi, I'm ghostyak, an indie developer.

Today, I'd like to introduce and promote a Windows application that I created.

2. Introduction

3. Why I Made It

I wanted to organize folders on my desktop into rectangular areas and move them between those areas depending on the progress of my work.

There is already a similar application called Stardock Fences, but Fences actually moves the original desktop files into its fence areas.

That wasn't exactly how I wanted my workflow to work, so I decided to build my own solution.

4. Main Features

  • Runs on the same desktop layer as desktop icons, so it stays visible even when you press Win+D.
  • Create a New Box from the right-click context menu, or create one by dragging with the right mouse button.
  • Double-click an empty area of the desktop to hide desktop icons.
  • Ctrl + Double-click an empty area of the desktop to hide the boxes.
  • Drag and drop file shortcuts/links into a Box (Fence) to register and launch them.
  • Add images or folders containing images to a Box and display them like a digital photo frame.

5. Performance

The area I focused on the most was startup speed after Windows boots.

At this point, GhostyakBoxes launches almost immediately as soon as the desktop appears.

I also spent a lot of time optimizing memory usage and overall performance.

It supports multiple monitors, remembers Box positions for different monitor configurations, and automatically adjusts their size based on the monitor's DPI settings.

6. Download

You can download GhostyakBoxes from the official website above.

I'm planning to sell the application in the future, so the executable is currently available in both Free and Trial versions.

If you'd like to try the full feature set, I recommend installing the Trial version.
